The Delaware Dept. of Transportation has been selected by ENR’s editors as the 2018 ENR MidAtlantic Owner of the Year.

Owners of the Year are chosen for their innovation and creativity throughout the region as well as their contributions to their community. The last four MidAtlantic winners include Douglas DevelopmentPennDOT, DC Public Schools and DC Water.

DelDOT is currently working on the $470 million US 301 project. The high-profile project—which will accommodate current and future traffic volumes in and through the region—includes significant public and environmental agency involvement. The project will also alleviate congestion and enhance safety on the regional transportation network by adding capacity, upgrading local roadways to meet current design standards, and by removing long-haul truck traffic from the local road network.

The agency also recently completed the $38 million West Dover Connector. The project, which opened in late 2017, improved mobility in the southwestern side of Dover for pedestrians and motorists. The scope of work for the 3.5-mile roadway project included alignments, traffic signal design, stormwater management, two new bridges, railway coordination and environmental documentation. Additionally, bicycle facilities, DART services and multiple pathways were constructed to connect with park facilities, commercial centers and residential communities.

We’ll have more information about the agency’s achievements in the April issue of ENR MidAtlantic.
