[VIDEO]: Trump Pushes Off Infrastructure Bill While Under Investigation

May 23, 2019

President Donald Trump walked out of a meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at the White House on Wednesday, telling reporters that he would not negotiate on legislation with Democrats while still under investigation.

According to CNBC, Trump’s attitude seems to be sparked by comments Pelosi made earlier in the day when she said, “We believe the president of the United States is engaged in a cover-up” by blocking White House aides from giving testimony and responding to document requests.

A White House official told CNBC that the meeting lasted only about seven minutes. According to the article, Trump said the Democrats were too focused on investigating to arrive at a final infrastructure agreement.

“When you’re done we can talk. Meeting over,” Trump said, according to the official.

“I knew the president wasn’t serious about infrastructure and would find a way out,” Pelosi said to Democratic colleagues following the meeting, a Democratic aide told NBC.

In late April, Democrats announced that Trump agreed to an infrastructure package of $2 trillion in funding would be sufficient. As of now, there is little clarity as to what next steps forward might be.
