Jame AndersonDesign firm SmithGroup has promoted Jame Anderson to lead its cultural practice. In this role, Anderson, a museum architect and exhibition design specialist based in Washington, D.C., will lead the firm’s cultural studios, which provide planning and design services to organizations worldwide. Before rejoining SmithGroup in 2015, Anderson was a senior architect and exhibit designer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. During her first tenure with SmithGroup, Anderson was a project architect on the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian.

 

James G. Davis Construction Corp. has promoted Meghan Ulrich to vice president from director. She provides leadership, oversight and technical management across all construction operations, the firm says. The firm also promoted Jim Camlek to director. The former project executive’s experience is in the interiors market. Ulrich and Camlek work in the firm’s Rockville, Md., headquarters.

 

Susan ReedSusan Reed was promoted to serve as director of Glavé & Holmes Architecture’s new studio focused on historic preservation. Reed, an architect and historic preservation specialist, previously served as associate for the architecture, interior design and planning firm, which is located in Richmond.

 

Nichole MendinskyNichole Mendinsky has been named practice area leader of the land development service group at design firm Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc. Located in the firm’s Lewisburg, Pa., office, Mendinsky is responsible for the group’s strategy, staff development, project delivery, client management and sales. Mendinsky is focused on the higher education, health care and senior living sectors. She had been the firm’s land development team leader. Mendinsky’s experience includes designing plazas and courtyards as well as parks and recreational facilities.

 

Murphie Barrett, a former congressional staffer who played key roles in drafting several recent infrastructure laws, has joined the Associated General Contractors of America as vice president of congressional relations for infrastructure advancement. Barrett will lead AGC’s transportation, water and utility infrastructure advocacy efforts and also work on regulatory issues. She had been staff director for the House subcommittee on highways and transit and served as the lead Republican staff negotiator for the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, which was signed into law in 2015. Barrett replaces Sean O’Neill at AGC. O’Neill moved to the Portland Cement Association as a senior vice president.

 

Jack Buckingham has joined HNTB Corp.’s transit and rail practice as vice president for program delivery. Buckingham, based in the firm’s District of Columbia office, oversees delivery of transit and rail projects and programs in the Washington, D.C., metro area.


Obituary
 

Daniel LeinheiserDaniel Leinheiser of Philadelphia, who served as vice president and director of highway design at Urban Engineers, died on Dec. 27. He was 78 and had retired in 2011. Leinheiser’s experience included leading the design efforts on major interstate highways and arterial and local roads on new or existing alignments. His projects included high-profile sections of the Blue Route, Interstate 95 and State Route 1 Phase II in Delaware, which was used as a national model known as the NEPA/404 Merge.
