Ken Pankow: A career of caring

Making the medical experience smoother for patients

Our friends at Anderson Healthcare always keep their patients top of mind. Just like any good Design-Build project, the end-user experience should be the first priority for every decision you make.

It requires painstaking attention to detail from people like Ken Pankow, Anderson Healthcare’s chief of facilities management and administrative director of facilities and safety. He recently shared from his wealth of professional knowledge and life experiences in a case study published by Blueprint.

Anderson Healthcare serves several suburban and rural communities in southwestern Illinois, operating Anderson Hospital, the Community Hospital of Staunton, Maryville Imaging and Anderson Mercy Cancer Care.

Anderson is currently working on a new medical office building to bring several services together under one roof, including space for about 20 providers on the Anderson Healthcare Goshen Campus in Edwardsville.

The Korte Company began working with Anderson in early 2017 to facilitate the approval process and develop plans for a new facility located on their new Goshen Campus in Edwardsville, Illinois. It took more than six months to conduct community reviews and work with the city to plan new infrastructure. But at long last, the $20 million two-story, 50,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed in summer 2022.

The ambulatory surgery center features an outpatient surgery center with operation prep rooms, operating rooms, post-anesthesia recovery area and procedure room. The facility was designed with future growth in mind allowing for an increase in the number of operating rooms and associated supporting functions.

Pankow is the son of a nurse who spent his career in the healthcare sector. He knows what quality care looks like and how to create a comfortable experience for patients. All of his knowledge and experience were put to work as he helped incorporate those many providers into one highly accessible facility.
