Epiroc attachments for Ivan Lynn

IJ Lynn & Sons, a drainage and earthworks contractor based in Armoy, County Antrim, is a satisfied customer of Epiroc attachments.

Epiroc, you may recall, is the mining and civil engineering equipment company spun out of Atlas Copco last year and listed on the Stockholm stock exchange as a separate comp any.

There’s a lot of industrial heritage there. The hydraulic breaker was originally developed in 1963 by the German company Krupp Berco Bautechnik, which became part of Atlas Copco in 2002.

Epiroc’s Hydraulic Attachment Tools (HAT) division is therefore headquartered in Essen, Germany, and has production facilities in Essen and Hämbach (Germany) and Kalmar (Sweden).

IJ Lynn & Sons has been using Epiroc Solid Body (SB) breakers for three years now. First introduced by Atlas Copco in 1993, the solid body concept uses a patented internal component design that integrates the percussion mechanism and the guide system into a single piece. This eliminates the weakest components of conventional breakers and gives SB breakers their durability.

On the back of three years reliable service from its SB breakers, Lynn has now invested in some more Epiroc breakers and grabs.

Local dealer WAC McCandless (Engineers) Ltd supplied it with an Epiroc MG 1500 multi grapple and MB 1650 breaker.

Ivan Lynn says: “We’ve been using the new breaker and grapple to demolish a waste water treatment plant and then remove the waste from the site. I’ve been particularly impressed with the MG 1500 R – the rotation unit on the grab makes it so much faster and more flexible than our old grab.”

The team has used the MB 1650 hammer to break up the water tanks, moving the large pieces of debris to an area of the site where they can be broken down quickly and easily using the Epiroc SB breakers, before removing it from the site for recycling.

“The MG 1500 is so easy to handle that we can sort hardcore from other materials as we dismantle the building,” Ivan Lynn says.
