Electric Hype Despite No Revenue: WSJ

Oct. 22, 2020

An article in the Wall Street Journal investigates the trend of makers of electric vehicles and components that have high market valuations despite no revenue.

The paper looks at Hyliion and Lordstown Motors, among others. Lordstown will make the Endurance electric pickup truck.

Hyliion manufacturers a hybrid drive train for use on heavy trucks and has manufactured "fewer than two dozen," according to the Journal's report.

The article cites reasons driving the investments, which determine market valuation of a company, to the recent rises in Tesla's share prices as well as the move in California to ban sales of new gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles, a move that is also being considered at the Federal level.
