Holographic Hard Hat Provides a ‘Mixed-Reality’ Work Environment

Feb. 28, 2019

The Trimble XR10 hard hat enables workers in safety-controlled situations to access holographic information on the job site. The hat incorporates the Microsoft HoloLens, and is the first device created with the Microsoft HoloLens customization program, according to Trimble.

The device integrates spatial computing technology into a hard hat for worker safety. It also allows workers to gain a wider field of view on site.

In addition, the full solution provides workers with access to 3D models, offering a mixed-reality experience. An expanded set of Trimble software and mixed software and services will be available to provide field-oriented workflows.

"The ability to access and interact with holographic content has inspired new visualization, collaboration, and production workflows in enterprise markets," Alex Kipman, technical fellow, AI and Mixed Reality at Microsoft, said in a press release. "For people that spend their days on the work site, the Trimble XR10 with HoloLens 2 and Trimble's portfolio of software unlocks the power of mixed-reality to help them get more work done."
