Skiles Group is leading the vertical expansion at Methodist Richardson Medical Center in Richardson, Texas. Work includes the addition of two floors to the existing four-story, 191-bed acute care hospital.

Taken on the morning of Feb. 5, the photo shows workers “on scaffolding outside of the added floors,” says Herndon, who took the shot from inside the building where the exterior windows hadn’t yet been installed.

The expansion adds 104,000 sq ft to the hospital and includes 150 new patient beds, the hospital’s ninth operating room and a third cardiac catheterization lab. “I was there that day to photograph several things: details of the construction, a safety meeting and headshots of Skiles employees,” Herndon says. “I wanted to capture an exciting image of the construction and saw that in the workers on the scaffolding with the morning fog and view of North Dallas in the distance.” Herndon took the shot using a Nikon D500 with a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. “I was happy with how the city looked with the fog for the background that day. I also liked the graphical elements of the straight lines in the scaffolding leading to the workers and the activity shown in the photos,” he says.
