Overall Construction Spending Expected to Rise Almost 4% This Year

Non-residential and residential work forecast to strengthen, while non-building activity will weaken slightly.

“We see continued, I would say, moderate activity in corporate office or office construction, and more of it is renovation than new construction, actually. We see also continued activity with senior living,” Barr says. “We’ve actually seen an increase of activity in retail. It was pretty low, actually, the last several years, but we’ve seen a nice little increase as a number of retailers are kind of gaining confidence on their own expansion plans, and we’re actually doing some retail development. We are trying to get ahead of this growth, and it’s exceeded our expectations.”
