Ameren Missouri Breaks Ground on Missouri’s Largest Investor-Owned Utility Solar Facility

St. Louis, Mo. — Construction on Missouri’s largest investor-owned utility solar facility — the O’Fallon Renewable Energy Center — has begun with the ceremonial installation of the first solar panel. St. Louis, Mo.-based MC Industrial, Inc., an independent McCarthy company, has been chosen to manage the design and construction of Ameren Missouri’s multimillion-dollar project. In a groundbreaking event at the construction site in O”Fallon, Mo., dozens of key state leaders joined Ameren executives and special guest speakers, including O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy; Missouri Public Service Commission Chairman Robert S. Kenney and Director of the Missouri Division of Energy Llona Weiss.

The plan calls for approximately 19,000 solar panels spanning an area approximately the size of 19 football fields. The solar facility is scheduled to begin delivering electricity to customers by the end of 2014. MC Industrial is currently managing design and permitting and will begin construction this June.

The O’Fallon Renewable Energy Center will be capable of generating enough electricity to power 650 average-size homes in the St. Louis area and is being built adjacent to Ameren Missouri’s Belleau substation in St. Charles County on approximately 22 acres already owned by the utility. The project is expected to generate 50 to 70 construction jobs.

MC Industrial is partnering with the Southwest Division of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., on this project.
