Arizona The Flood Control District of Maricopa County is planning on carrying out the Agua Fria Watercourse Master Plan Channelization Alternative. The project will create a 1,200-ft-wide corridor that will incorporate a flood channel, a mid-terrace floodplain and a 100-ft-wide landscape buffer on either side. The corridor will provide a continuous river way for water conveyance as well as providing multiuse opportunities for trails, parks and open space recreation. The project will extend 32 miles from Indian School Road in the south to the Central Arizona Project siphon crossing in the north. The project is valued between $115 million and $148 million. Colorado Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority is planning to carry out the Grand Junction Regional Airport Runway 11/29 replacement project. The project entails an 1,800-ft runway shift to the northwest, and relocation of 7,700 ft of the two-lane 27th Road to the northwest. The shift will require 1.7 million cu yd of embankment and will be constructed in phases as necessary to allow for realignment of roadways, procurement of land and completion of paving for the new runway and taxiway extensions. Once the extension has been installed, the final phase of the rehabilitation project will remove the eastern end of the runway and adjust all lighting and navigational aids. Louisiana The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority will receive an $18.5-million grant from the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council to complete the engineering and design of the Houma Navigation Canal Lock Complex in Terrebonne Parish. The 110-ft by 800-ft lock complex will work in concert with the existing Bubba Dove Floodgate and will allow for the navigation of wider vessels heading to and from the Gulf of Mexico oil field. This project will provide flood protection to surrounding communities by blocking storm surges and will reduce saltwater intrusion, which has been a significant factor in generating high rates of land loss in coastal Louisiana. Alabama The U.S. General Services Administration has awarded a $42.5-million design-build contract to BL Harbert International LLC to construct a new federal courthouse in Anniston. The 63,000-sq-ft building will include two courtrooms and three judges chambers. There will also be work space for the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. New York The City of Buffalo has chosen Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, a landscape architecture firm, to redesign Buffalo’s LaSalle Park. The park will be renamed the Ralph C. Washington 4/2 Skanska USA Building Inc. is seeking subcontractor bidders for the Highline High School replacement project in Burien. The work will be phased and includes deconstruction of approximately 193,000 sq ft of existing structure, reconstruction and renovation of 31,900 sq ft of existing structure, and new construction of additional square footage for a total of 230,000 sq ft. Missouri 4/11 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking bidders to carry out the Swope Park industrial area levee construction project, located on a 50-acre site on the left descending bank of the Blue River in Kansas City. The industrial park is centered on 75th Street Terrace and bounded by Union Pacific Railroad tracks to the west and the Blue River channel to the north, south and east. The work includes clearing and grubbing, the construction of flood walls, earthen levees, interior stormwater piping and a detention pond with gatewell.
