Minnesota Newport Midwest LLC is planning to construct the Mariner Apartments in Minnetonka. The project consists of two six-story buildings totaling 278,493 sq ft, containing 249 units and 293 underground parking spaces. It is being designed by Collage Urban Design Studio–Landmark Development, and Moeding & Son LLC has been selected as the general contractor. New Mexico The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to construct the MQ-9 Formal Training Unit operations facility at Holloman Air Force Base in Albuquerque. Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. has been chosen as the designer. The 212,070-sq-ft building will house three MQ-9 squadrons and include administrative space, academic space, fixed ground control stations, maintenance functions and training simulators. North Carolina CSX and the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation are planning to build the Carolina Connector, an intermodal facility in Rocky Mount. The 330-acre facility will offload freight containers from arriving trains onto other trains or trucks, or vice versa. The complex will include buildings, rail sidings, parking and storage areas and three cranes. Milord Co. has been selected as the construction manager. Alaska Cruz Construction Inc. has started carrying out the Tok Cutoff Road rehabilitation project, between mileposts 38 and 50 in the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area. The project entails drainage improvements, embankment stabilization and rebuilding pavement structure. It also includes bridge rail upgrades and deck repairs to the Indian River Bridge. It will improve safety and reduce maintenance requirements along the project corridor because the road experiences excessive frost heaving and settlement due to subgrade failure and drainage problems. Georgia PREMIER Design + Build Group has started constructing a cold storage facility for Frozen Assets Cold Storage on a 20-acre site in Savannah. The 285,527-sq-ft facility will offer 50-ft clear height storage, a 19,518-sq-ft blast freezer, two freezer rooms, 39 exterior truck doors, 54 trailer positions and one drive-in door. Illinois 7/1 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is anticipating releasing the solicitation notice with specifications for the Keithsburg Division Habitat Restoration and Enhancement Project on July 1. The project area is a 1,400-acre backwater complex of interconnected backwaters channels, secondary channels, wetlands and floodplain habitat. The project will restore and protect off-channel aquatic, wetland and floodplain forest habitats. The work will be within or adjacent to the river, subject to water fluctuations. Limited land access may be available across an unimproved berm. Work may require river access. Some work may be in the water. Spillways will require construction along a berm located adjacent to the Mississippi River. Work will include tree clearing, excavation and placement of drainage stone, geotextile fabric, riprap and articulated concrete mats. The project is valued at between $5 million and $10 million. New Jersey 7/9 New Jersey Transit is seeking pre-qualifications from general contractors interested in carrying out Phase 1 of the Amtrak Gateway Portal Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project. The project involves removing the existing century-old swing-span Portal Bridge on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor Line over the Hackensack River between Secaucus and Kearny, and constructing a two-track, fixed-span replacement bridge. The project has been designed by a joint venture comprising Gannett Fleming, HNTB and Jacobs Engineering. The project is valued at $940 million.
