Steven W. Smith

McKim & Creed Inc.’s board of directors appointed Steven W. Smith chief executive officer. John T. Lucey, the Raleigh-based firm’s CEO since 2014, will continue to serve in the role of chairman of the board. 

“Steve is a people-oriented leader and understands our business and what it takes to be successful,” Lucey said. “He is a civil engineer who worked his way up through the ranks of his first professional employer to become president of his firm. His background includes a strong understanding of McKim & Creed’s core engineering and geomatic services, combined with the experience of leading and growing an employee-owned professional services firm.”

Kenny Sommerkamp

Kenny Sommerkamp has joined the Charlotte office of JE Dunn Construction as client solutions manager. With 18 years of industry experience in the fields of commercial construction, energy and automotive industries, Sommerkamp will be responsible for business development in Charlotte and assisting with JE Dunn’s continued efforts to build long-term relationships with clients in the commercial office and industrial, aviation and health care markets. 

David Newland

JE Dunn also announced the promotion of David Newland to preconstruction director. Newland, with more than  20 years of experience—including six with JE Dunn—will lead the estimating and preconstruction team and the overall preconstruction process, including producing competitive bids, negotiated proposals, cost estimates, analysis and budgets.

Reanna Coggins

The company also has promoted Reanna Coggins to senior project engineer. Coggins began with JE Dunn in 2019 as a project engineer, and in her new role she will assist with the Jenkins High School project and manage for the Robert Smalls International Academy project.

Jorge Moros

Plaza Construction has promoted Jorge Moros to executive vice president, regional director of the firm’s Miami office. With more than 22 years of design and construction industry experience, Moros will manage and execute day-to-day operations, in addition to continuing his work in Plaza’s business development, strategy management, marketing, and communications for all the New York-based firm’s regions. 

Brook Brookshire

Skanska has promoted Brook Brookshire to senior vice president of its civil infrastructure operations in Florida. Brookshire has been with the company for more than 30 years.

 

Susan Osterberg

Nashville-based engineering and consulting firm Smith Seckman Reid Inc. has promoted Susan Osterberg to chief operating officer and Mike Rogers to chief growth officer. Osterberg previously served as SSR’s chief administrative officer since 2015. Rogers has served as SSR’s sports and entertainment market leader for the past 18 years.

Russell AndersonJason Patrizi

Kaufman Lynn Construction added Russell Anderson as executive vice president for preconstruction and Jason Patrizi as senior vice president of operations. Anderson’s industry experience includes a portfolio of more than 300 projects. Patrizi will be responsible for overseeing project development, contract negotiations, staffing assignments, scheduling, cost analysis and forecasting. Patrizi most recently worked as a senior vice president of development at Kushner/Westminster.

Randy Zylstra

Barton Malow Builders has named 30-year industry veteran Randy Zylstra director of Florida operations. Prior to joining Barton Malow, Zylstra served in an executive role for Gilbane Building Co. and has led projects in higher education, K-12, health care, industrial, commercial and sports and entertainment markets.

“There’s great opportunity in Florida right now, and Randy is the right person to lead us into this next chapter,” says Todd Ketola, chief operating officer.

Zainab Sanusi

Zainab Sanusi has joined Burns & McDonnell as operations manager for the Atlanta transmission and distribution practice. With 15-plus years of experience in leading complex critical infrastructure projects, Sanusi will focus on business development, client engagement and operations management.

Michael Shell

Burns & McDonnell also hired Michael Shell as Atlanta’s electrical and controls department manager for the firm’s food and consumer products efforts. A specialist in automation, Shell’s roughly 25 years of experience includes leading the design and execution of manufacturing projects with a focus on electrical, controls, networking and safety systems.

Rob Worthen

Rob Worthen also has joined Burns & McDonnell as a project manager for food and consumer products efforts in Atlanta. Worthen has managed dozens of multimillion-dollar manufacturing projects, from engineering design to procurement and construction.

David Rieken

Sundt Construction Inc. has hired David Rieken as a project executive in its industrial group. Based in Jacksonville, Rieken will focus on growing Sundt’s water and manufacturing markets in Florida and the surrounding region. With 25 years’ experience, Rieken’s work has focused on the construction and engineering of large water and wastewater resource and infrastructure facilities and utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Minta Ferguson

Architecture and interior design firm McMillan Pazdan Smith has hired Minta Ferguson as director of planning. Ferguson’s new role will include planning, strategy, finance and operations and expanding predesign service offerings. Her health care planning and design work includes projects for not-for-profit and for-profit clients as well as for the Army and Veteran’s national health care systems. Ferguson comes to McMillan Pazdan Smith after eight years at Catalyst, a Haskell Company, as director of planning.

Kailash Lala

Kailash Lala has joined HNTB’s Atlanta office as technology director. In this role, Lala will lead the delivery of technology and geospatial solutions to public- and private-sector clients. 

 

Jamie Daniel

CROFT has promoted associate Jamie Daniel to project manager for the company’s residential business unit. Daniel will work with the design team on space planning and layouts with specific design goals of the project program.

Michelle Hubbard

TLC Engineering Solutions, Orlando, has hired Michelle Hubbard as marketing director and associate. Hubbard, who has spent the majority of her career in the AEC industry, will oversee corporate marketing, communication and business development efforts.

Winter Park, Fla.-based FK Architecture, a Fugleberg Koch Company, announced the election of owner Gary Badge to the position of managing member. Badge, who has been with the FK family for 17 years, has held various roles over that time, including communications, project management, marketing, contract negotiations and day-to-day operations.  

“Gary has been a key member of our team, and his election to managing member is well-deserved,” said Bob Koch, the firm’s founding principal and owner.

Frampton Construction Co., Charleston, S.C., promoted Brendan Gilbert and Adam Wall to the position of senior project manager. The firm also announced that Shamrock Thompson and David Urban were named senior superintendents.
