Kansas ICM Engineering is planning to build Element LLC a bio-refinery in Colwich. The plant will produce 70 million gallons of ethanol per year. ICM, a biofuels process technology provider, will design the plant, and The Andersons Inc. will serve as the general contractor. The plant will use waste wood to drive a combined heat and power generator that will offset more than 70% of the natural gas requirements and as much as 80% of the electrical demand. Maine Atlantic Holdings II LLC is planning to convert the Lincoln Mill in Biddeford into a mixed-use project. The five-story, 240,000-sq-ft mill building will be converted into 181 apartments, a 10,000-sq-ft fitness club, a rooftop pool, a restaurant and 18,000 sq ft of commercial space on the ground floor. Mississippi Free Flow Power, a subsidiary of Rye Development LLC, is planning on retrofitting a hydroelectric facility on the existing Enid Lake Dam, an 85-ft-tall, 8,400-ft-long earth-fill embankment dam. The project entails constructing a 320-ft-long by 10.25-ft-dia steel liner installed within one of the two existing outlet conduits; a 50-ft-long by 20-ft-wide (varies) steel-lined, concrete bifurcation chamber containing two hydraulically operated gates used to control the amount of flow diverted from the existing stilling basin to the powerhouse; a 240-ft-long by 10-ft-dia steel penstock; a 55-ft-wide by 50-ft-long by 100-ft-high steel and reinforced concrete forebay that will house trashracks and a fish bypass gate; an 80-ft-long by 50-ft-wide concrete powerhouse containing two vertical Kaplan turbine generator units that have a combined installed capacity of 4.6 MW; a 150-ft-long by 75-ft-wide tailrace; a 181-ft-long, 4.16-kV buried cable; a substation; and a 2,036-ft-long, 12.5-kV overhead transmission line extending from the substation to a utility-owned distribution line. South Carolina The city of Greenville is planning to develop Unity Public Park. The 60-acre park, on a site extending from Whittenberg Elementary School to the railroad trestle, will feature a 120-ft-tall observation tower, an outdoor concert hall, a pedestrian bridge, playgrounds and boardwalks. Nevada The Nevada Dept. of Transportation has awarded a $58.56-million contract to Aggregate Industries-SWR Inc. for a highway improvement project. The project entails widening a six-mile stretch of State Route 160 (Blue Diamond Road) between mile markers 16 and 22 by creating four travel lanes near Mountain Springs. The work includes adding a raised median barrier and new signs and flattening the side slopes to make it safer for motorists to pull over. A wildlife undercrossing, frontage roads and an emergency signal near the volunteer fire station are also planned. Construction is expected to be completed by October 2019. Washington Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) has awarded a contract to Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. to replace their Bridge No. 81.4 across the Cowlitz River near Vader. The new bridge will be 712 ft long and will occupy the same alignment of the existing bridge, which will require lateral sliding of both old and new structures. The new bridge includes a 336-ft-long truss, two deck plate girder steel spans and three ballast deck concrete beam spans. The substructure includes six 12-ft-dia drilled shafts and four 10.5-ft-dia drilled shafts as well as demolition of the existing bridge. New York 8/30 The New York City Transit Authority is seeking bidders for Contract No. S47009, valued at $10 million, for installing a communication-based train control (CBTC) signal system on the subway’s Culver Line in Brooklyn. The work involves installing a CBTC system from the Church Avenue station to the West Eighth Street station, modification of the auxiliary wayside system, installation of zone controllers at each interlocking and modernization of the Avenue X, Kings Highway and the Ditmas Avenue interlocking. The work also includes construction of a new relay room, CBTC and other equipment rooms and rehabilitation of the existing facility rooms.
