Maine Maine Water Co. is planning to build the Saco River water treatment facility in Biddeford. It will replace a 133-year-old existing treatment facility that sits squarely in the floodplain. Michigan The University of Michigan is planning to convert the Alexander Ruthven Museums building into the university’s central administration building. The four-story building, erected in 1928, was designed by Albert Kahn. The project includes the demolition of a 1964 addition of about 34,000 sq ft, which will be replaced by a 100,000-sq-ft building for classrooms. It has been designed by Harley Ellis Devereaux, and the Barton Malow Co. has been chosen as the construction manager. The project is valued at $150 million. Missouri The American Royal Association is planning to build a facility on a site in Kansas City, Kan., bounded by 110th Street, 118th Street, Parallel Parkway and State Avenue. It will include: a 164,000-sq-ft livestock expo arena with approximately 5,000 permanent seats and an additional 3,200 temporary seats for a variety of events, including livestock exhibitions and rodeos; a 250,000-sq-ft livestock exhibition hall, including pens for approximately 2,000 animals for events; 5,000 sq ft of office space; and a 6,500-sq-ft agricultural education center that includes an agricultural museum with indoor and outdoor exhibits. This new facility will replace the existing facility located in the West Bottoms section of Kansas City, Mo., since 1899, which had long been home to the Kansas City Stockyards. Wyoming The Wyoming Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out a winter freight improvement project. California W.M. Lyles Co. has started constructing the Rialto Bio­energy Facility in Rialto. The project entails converting an existing non-operational biosolids processing facility into a regional organic waste processing facility. The facility will convert 700 tons of food waste per day and 300 tons of biosolids into renewable natural gas, renewable electricity, and Class A organic fertilizer. When construction is completed in 2020, it will be the largest food waste diversion and energy recovery facility in North America. It will produce the equivalent of 13 MW of clean energy per year. New York MTA Metro-North Commuter Railroad has awarded a $365-million design-build contract to the Skanska-ECCO joint venture for the final phase of the Croton-Harmon Shops and Yard complex rebuild. This phase entails the design and construction of a six-track, double-ended electrical multiple unit running repair and support shop, which will include a ground floor with ten married-pair vehicle repair positions, and a partial second floor that includes component repair workshops and multiple office areas.
