In addition to 525 apartments and 6,000 sq ft of retail, the 34-story 888 South Hope houses a sky lounge club, fitness room, yoga studio and entertainment lounge. The $165-million tower also contains an amenity deck built atop a parking structure that is accessible by an eighth-story pedestrian bridge. Among other amenities, the rooftop contains thousands of plants and more than 130 trees, many of which are 20 ft tall and had to be hoisted into place by a crane.

The building’s superstructure consists of concrete, while the exterior combines window wall and metal panels. Select residences feature loft-like unfinished concrete ceilings, hardwood-style floors, Whirlpool-appointed kitchens and upgraded appliances. Some units also feature custom window walls fitted with built-in Mecho shades and black-out shades in the bedrooms.

Quality control measurement—from the first delivery phase to benchmark inspections to work-lists—included use of collaborative construction management software that proved critical in meeting project objectives. The project was staffed with a virtual design and construction manager to oversee the different performance models. Early participation by design consultants allowed the team to upload consultant templates for observation reports and punchlists, helping to streamline distribution and eliminate the need for multiple versions to track final details. Subcontractors were provided with real-time reports that helped to expedite corrective measures.
