The Housing Authority of Salt Lake County partnered with developer Vecino Group to create Bodhi—which means “the experience of enlightenment.” Bodhi is a five-story, affordable and market-rate multifamily project consisting of 80 units and supportive services for residents. In addition to providing homes for low-income and chronically homeless residents, Bodhi Apartments also includes space to support social services, a wellness room, exercise facility and outdoor amenities.

The site was among the project’s biggest challenges—a small lot with poor soil conditions wedged between two other buildings. A geopier structural-support system was implemented to save the time and costs of replacing soils with clean fill. With no laydown area available, Ascent Construction leased a nearby site and created an extensive traffic-control plan to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists traveling through the busy neighborhood.
