Sundaram-Clayton Limited (SCL), an Indian manufacturer and supplier of aluminum cast products to global original equipment manufacturers, will invest $40 million to expand its Dorchester County, SC operations. The expansion project is expected to create an additional 100 new jobs.

To serve this market better, we have established a manufacturing base in Dorchester County in South Carolina, given the strategic business advantages, including an excellent business environment and a well-qualified workforce,” said Sundaram-Clayton Limited Joint Managing Director Dr. Lakshmi Venu. “The continued strength of the U.S. economy has led to an increase in demand for our products and, thus, the expansion of the existing manufacturing base in South Carolina. We appreciate the overall support from the state and the county, and look forward to being a part of the community here.”
Part of the $6.5 billion TVS Group, SCL is a leading supplier of aluminum die-castings to the automotive and non-automotive sectors. In 2017, the company announced plans to establish its first South Carolina operations in the Ridgeville Industrial Campus in Ridgeville, SC. SCL acquired 50 acres of land for the facility, where it manufactures aluminum high-pressure, die-cast products and permanent mold gravity cast parts for its customers.
“Our state is leading the way in economic development, and the fact that Sundaram-Clayton Limited is already announcing additional jobs is testament to that,” said Gov. Henry McMaster. “This is a big win for Dorchester County and the entire state, and we’re excited to see what the future has in store for this great company.”
To meet increased demand for its products, the company will expand its Ridgeville facility by 78,000 square feet. The additional space will accommodate new equipment, increasing the capacity for the plant. Hiring for the new positions is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2019.
The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.
