To select the next class of ENR Newsmakers, our editors searched the magazine’s web and print pages for individuals who had served the “best interests of the construction industry and the public” in 2017. While the nominees came from every market sector and represented many professions and job titles, the winners all have three things in common: They innovate, they overcome challenges, and their accomplishments offer benefits that will have an impact beyond their own companies or institutions. Among the 2017 Newsmakers featured in the following pages, a professor worked to help engineers model and estimate the risks and uncertainty of weather extremes; a contractor made time-saving software available to the whole industry—for free; a union’s general president implemented a maternity-leave program for members; and a project director raced to stabilize and repair a dam spillway after a collapse in February. One of the 25 already has been singled out for top recognition as ENR’s Award of Excellence Winner. Find out who the winner is and join us on April 5 to celebrate at the Hilton Midtown in New York City.
