Total construction spending expected to increase by more than 7% this year

The non-residential sector is forecast to show particular strength, with activity climbing by 61%.

Commercial construction is booming in Tucson, says McDowell. “Investments from major companies like Caterpillar, GEICO and Roche are fueling the office market. Over the last five years, there has been a $2-billion economic impact because of the revitalization of Tucson’s downtown,” he says. The growth has put significant pressure in pricing and resources. “Locking in subcontractors as early as possible has become vital to ensure critical trades have sufficient staff allocated to assign to projects and meet schedule deadlines.”
