Archie is the cheap version of Archicad, customised for Contractors. Archie’s workspace is partitioned into 4 panels, each colour coded for easy navigation: Modelling and Coordination: the panel is white with the original-orange coloured grid of ArchiCAD (note spell!) where contractors model their buildings.

While the specification system has detailed guidance and links to standards, regulations and suggested values, geometric BIM software has great visualization analysis and instance scheduling functionality. All BIM objects have properties, and most also have geometries (although some do not, for example a paint finish).

First, many years before it became live, I predicted, that the ‘British wholesale BIM Mandate’ was not going to work – even though the letters behind the names of those driving it, could complete the entire alphabet, I guessed, all of them together could hardly model a barn or a small outhouse at any LOD, if their life was depending on it.

Some people have to be reminded that the project file is a database and like any database the more and accurate information about the project you put into the model the more analytical modeling and scheduling you can get out of the model. If you want to estimate the total cost of the project per square foot then setup an Area Plan scheme and Area schedule: 1. Schedule/Quantities. If you want to estimate the total cost of the project by materials used then setup one of Revits new Material Takeoff Schedules: 1. Schedule/Quantities. Labels: Schedules.

The more accurate the information in your Revit model the more you can do with it. Models from different consultants (who use software other than Revit to model) can be combined for analysis and clash detection.
