The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) launched in 2009. Since then, more than 400,000 homes have received the ANSI-approved, third-party certification that verifies green construction practices in single-family and multifamily residential buildings, remodeling projects, and land developments.
Since the inception of the green standard, builders across the U.S. have been continually adding to the pipeline of NGBS projects.
The National Association of Home Builders offers this snapshot of the top NGBS green certification activity in 2022 for single-family and multifamily projects:
Two states rank in the top 10 for both single-family and multifamily projects in 2022: Maryland and Virginia. New states topping the single-family certification list include Louisiana and South Carolina. New states and provinces topping the multifamily certification list include Puerto Rico and Utah.
