Construction Sector Leads Job Growth in January

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its Employment Situation Summary for January 2018 today showing 200,000 jobs were created in the first month of this year, with construction jobs increasing at the fastest clip. According to the BLS report, construction added 36,000 jobs, mostly among specialty trade contractors. (+26,000). Employment in residential building construction continued to trend up over the month (+5,000).

Construction employment increased by 36,000 jobs in January to the highest level since August 2008, according to an analysis of new government data by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said a possible new measure being discussed in Washington that would invest an additional $1.5 trillion in repairing and improving infrastructure would both help the sector continue to add jobs and attract new workers.
