A brace of major project wins lifted Galliford Try to pole position in the latest contract leagues for value of orders won during May.

The firm secured Middlesbrough’s £250m Boho Digital City project involving construction of three 20-storey flats, a 750-seat indoor arena, 400-seat outdoor amphitheatre, as well as office space.

While in North London, Galliford won the £75m plot 13 build-to-rent residential building at Brent Cross Town for Related Argent.

In the rolling 12-month league rankings, Kier continued to maintain its position as having secured the most work, with Mace jumping from fifth to second place on the strength of it replacing Laing O’Rourke on developer Landsec’s 370,000 sq ft Timber Square office scheme south London.

Top 5 contractors by work won in year to May


According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the top 50 firms secured 118 jobs, estimated to be worth nearly £2.7bn in May around 10% down in value terms on the previous month.

Among the other big wins in May, Mulalley & Co secured phases 3 and 4 of the Kings Crescent Estate renewal in Stoke Newington, North London.

Admiralty Arch to become a luxury hotel under the Waldorf Astoria brand.

Also in London, Knight Build won the job to deliver the Royal Arc Hotel in the Admiralty Arch at the end of the Mall for the Reuben Brothers.
