Apprentice saws-off thumb on hotel refurb site

Doctors managed to successfully reattach the thumb of a teenage apprentice after was severed off by a rotating blade on a refurbishment site. The then 18-year-old resumed his apprenticeship with another firm following the procedure. He was employed as an apprentice joiner by 3B Construction when the incident happened during the conversion of a 19th century hunting lodge into a luxury hotel in the Highlands.

TSL turnover smashes £500m as profit almost trebles

The technical construction and engineering contractor is riding high on orders for data centres, cold stores and pharmaceutical plant work. Buyers see recovery in house building sector

Construction buyers have reported a return to growth in the house building sector for the first time since last September. But contraction in civil engineering and commercial work saw the bellwether S&P Global UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index drop below the standstill 50 mark again in June for the six month in a row. Trio face prosecution after Hinkley site death

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has notified three companies that they will be prosecuted for health and safety offences following a worker fatality at the Hinkley Point C construction site NNB Generation Company (HPC) Ltd, Bouygues Travaux Publics SAS and Laing O’Rourke Delivery Limited are facing charges relating to an incident which occurred on the site, near Bridgwater, Somerset, on 13 November 2022.
