How Appropriate Is It To Have A Casino Everywhere?

Constructonomics

Remember the days when it was a big deal to go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City and throw a few bucks down on black or red and possibly pull a few slots? It was fun to make a trip of it. Yeah, you would lose a lot of money more often than not, but usually you didn’t gamble away your house or first born prior to leaving. Now it seems like there’s a casino in every town in the country with Philadelphia being the largest major city to have one.

Worksharing - Central File is being Accessed

Revit OpEd

I've been reading a thread at AUGI off and on during this past week regarding several people that have projects that repeatedly run into the "Central file is being accessed by someone else." errors. These prevent them from successfully syncing with central. At first the contributions to the thread seem to prove that having computers that use XP and Windows 7 involved in the projects was to blame.

Get into BIM so you can make faster informed decisions!

DebunkTheBIM

But what if the question is whether you should be getting into BIM at all? And what if that question required you to make an informed decision on a subject that you are unable to do because of lack of independent and meaningful data? The wording ‘ability to make informed decision’ has become a bit of a mantra of BIM and I find this to be a bit of a paradox.

Massing a Property Boundary

Revit OpEd

I read a thread at RevitForum.org last week that asked about seeing a property boundary in section views. Property Lines in Revit are just 2D so they don't show up, thus the question. It occurred to me as I read it that massing might fit the bill. I started with a property boundary using the Property Line tool since it works nicely for that purpose otherwise.

The under-appreciated digital clothes hanger.

DebunkTheBIM

The retail industry had worked it out a long time ago: A piece of clothing looks better displayed in 3D (on a mannequin or a clothes hanger) then lying flat. I got to a similar conclusion in the early days of my VC work. Pick up any of the flat sheets the building designers produced and hang them on the virtual project clothes hanger (mannequin, skeleton, framework, you choose the best term) and they’ll look better; And likely to be more useful too.

Louisiana Supreme Court Reverses Bad Decision That Allowed Bidders to Defraud the State

If you recall, on October 19, 2010, I discussed what I believed to be a very poor decision rendered by the Louisiana First Circuit , concluding that when a bidder on a public project defrauds the State, the State is refused any remedies. Well, apparently the Louisiana Supreme Court agreed with me (for once), because it just reversed the First Circuit’s decision!

Globalize BIM! (genuinely)
