Last Friday, the International Code Council and ASHRAE announced they signed an “agreement that the new version of the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), scheduled to be released in 2018, will be powered by” ASHRAE Standard 189.1 for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings. Much of the early reaction has been nonplussed given that, today, there are only a handful of IgCC green buildings. .

Caterpillar, Navistar Part Ways on Vocational Trucks

Caterpillar and Navistar have ended their agreement with vocational trucks, effective early 2016. Caterpillar will design and build its own trucks, and Navistar will "leverage" the intellectual property of the venture to launch a new line of "premium" trucks. Caterpillar will build trucks in its Victoria, Texas, plant. It will continue to build excavators there, and the addition of trucks will add about 200 jobs, Caterpillar says.

Titan International’s new low sidewall (LSW) tyre is on trial at two quarry sites and initial reports seem positive. The LSW tyre has entered the UK market with claims of a more stable and smooth off-highway ride. It has a lower aspect ratio and smaller sidewall than a standard tyre, resulting in an increased wheel diameter with no increase in the outside diameter of the tyre.

Construction Employment Drops in 127 Out of 358 Metro Areas

Construction employment declined in 127 metro areas, was stagnant in 51 and increased in 180 between June 2014 and June 2015, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). . AGC officials noted that the declines come as the House and Senate struggle to enact legislation to extend federal transportation investments beyond the expiration of the current program.
