Rebuild Philadelphia has recently implemented a Carpentry Academy as a stem of the Workforce Development program.

The Carpentry Academy is a six-week, paid training program that focuses on bridging the construction equity gap by carving a path to skilled trade union full-time positions that are family-sustaining and offer longevity. Upon completion of the training program, crew members will have the chance to apply and interview for paid, full-time union apprenticeships, Rebuild Philadelphia says.

During Carpentry Academy, crew members will participate in a six-week, full-time, paid training program ($15/hour) which includes:

  • Exposure to the construction industry, Hands-on work on a variety of carpentry related projects
  • Professional development and one-on-one life coaching sessions,
  • Career development centered around the carpentry trades, and
  • Completion of restoration projects at Eastern State Penitentiary
