To find out which masks are most effective at containing droplets, researchers at Florida Atlantic University used flow visualization to compare four common masks, according to Construction Dive. As construction reopens, knowing what mask is most effective is especially important as workers are in close contact. Between a single-layer bandana, handkerchief, and homemade mask, the homemade mask with a tighter fit and thicker material was best at containing droplets. While any face covering will help contain the usual droplets that come from coughing, sneezing and even speaking, there are things to look for in a face covering to maximize jobsite safety from the coronavirus.

Researchers at Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science, using flow visualization testing in a laboratory equipped with laser light and a mannequin, recently published their findings as to which masks were the most effective.
