ALABAMA

Vertex Energy Inc. is planning to convert the hydrocracking unit at its refinery in Saraland to produce renewable diesel fuel from organic waste and vegetable oils while continuing to supply conventional fuels. Upon completion of the project, the refinery will commence production of approximately 10,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel, increasing to 14,000 bpd by mid-year 2023. The refinery will continue to supply conventional fuels to the regional market at current rates. Worley USA has been chosen to provide design, engineering and procurement services. Haldor Topsoe, which provides renewable-diesel process technology, will lead the technology implementation of the conversion. Work is expected to start in January 2023 and be completed by April 2023. MICHIGAN

Bedrock Real Estate Services plans to convert the former Detroit Police Department headquarters building, at 1300 Beaubien Blvd., into a hotel. The nine-story, 240,000-sq-ft Albert Kahn-designed Italian Renaissance-style building served as police headquarters from 1923 to 2013. The project is valued at $100 million. TENNESSEE

Lincoln Properties Co. is planning to build the Circle South Office Building at 410 Eighth Ave. South in Nashville. The 30-story, 550,000-sq-ft building will contain 15,000 sq ft of retail space, an amenity terrace and a green roof. It is being designed by Gresham Smith, and Hoar Construction Co. has been chosen as the general contractor. Construction is expected to start in January 2023. The project is valued at $250 million. VIRGINIA

Vantage Data Centers is planning to build its second data center campus in Loudoun County. It will be located on a 17-acre site at the intersection of Glenn Drive and Belfort Park Drive in Sterling. It will consist of two buildings, totaling 893,819 sq ft and have 96 MW of electrical capacity. It is being designed by Corgan Associates Inc. The project is valued at $500 million. Icon West has started building a new Valley College Technical Building on the campus in San Bernardino. The two-story, 114,897-sq-ft building will contain classrooms, labs and offices for the school’s career and technical education programs. The existing Technical Building, with exception of the recently renovated East Wing, will be demolished upon occupancy of the new building. It has been designed by HMC Architects. Manhattan Construction Co. has started constructing the OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark in Oklahoma City. The project will include an 11-story, 404-room hotel; a 4.5-acre outdoor adventure lagoon lined with sandy beaches; a 100,000-sq-ft indoor water park; a 33,000-sq-ft family entertainment center; 38,000 sq ft of conference center space, including two ballrooms and meeting rooms; a 25,000-sq-ft First Americans Retail Gallery; 36,000 sq ft of retail, dining and entertainment space; and a 550-space parking garage. It has been designed by CallisonRTKL and Architectural Design Consultants Inc. Construction is expected to be completed by February 2025. The project is valued at $342 million. NEBRASKA

12/21 The City of Omaha is seeking bidders to carry out biosolids and energy improvements to the Papillion Creek Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility in Bellevue. The project entails construction of two 1.5-million-gallon conical bottom thermophilic digesters, a new digester control unit containing pre-heating heat exchangers, heat recovery heat exchangers, cooling heat exchangers, hot water pumps, and cooling water pumps, as well as construction of a new tunnel section that will connect the basement level of the digester control unit and the existing tunnel system. The project also will include construction of two 250,000-gallon solids blend tanks that will feed the thermophilic digesters, and removal of the existing digester complex 901 flare and construction of a new flare. Also included is construction of a new cogeneration building that will house four 2,500-kw, dual-fuel engines with heat recovery. 1/10/23 St. Clair County Transit District is seeking bidders to construct the MetroLink Extension Light Rail Project. The project entails a 5.5-mile-long light rail extension from the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport, plus an adjacent access roadway connecting to Reider Road and bike trail bridges over Seibbert Road.
