IDAHO

Micron Technology Inc. is planning an expansion of its campus in Boise. Spurred by the federal government’s CHIPS and Science Act, Micron plans to add 6.5 million sq ft of new buildings or additions, while annexing 358 additional acres. The largest building will be a four-story, 4.85-million-sq-ft semiconductor fabrication plant, containing a 600,000-sq-ft cleanroom, which will be the largest cleanroom ever built in the U.S. A 440,000-sq-ft administration building will contain a podium-style parking garage on the lower levels, with space for 3,600 cars. The 365,000-sq-ft Probe building will contain an 85,000-sq-ft cleanroom, where the final stage of the wafer manufacturing process, functionality testing, will take place. An existing fabrication building, known as B51, will add 92,000 sq ft of space. There will also be a 450,000-sq-ft central utility building, a new gas plant, a water treatment plant and a 22-acre electrical yard serving as a substation to support power needs for the fab. MAINE

The Portland Museum of Art has selected Lever Architecture to design a campus expansion and unification project. The PMA Blueprint, as the project is called, includes a new wing of the museum with 60,000 sq ft of space and improvements to four existing buildings. The linking structure will be made primarily from mass timber, as well as terracotta and glass. Construction is expected to begin in 2024 and be completed by 2026. NORTH CAROLINA

Malmo Ventures LLC, is planning to construct the Malmo Tract development on an 897-acre site in Leland. It will include 2,796 housing units, divided between single-family homes, single-family rental homes, duplexes, townhomes and multi-family buildings. The project is valued at $100 million. OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust is planning to carry out structural stability improvements to Overholser Dam. Freese and Nichols Inc. has been hired to design the needed repairs to the dam’s gates as well as reinforcements to the concrete. Design work is expected to take until 2025. The gate repairs are scheduled to be completed in 2027 and the concrete work by 2030. During construction, contractors are expected to build a temporary earthen dam upstream from the current dam. The reinforced concrete dam is 68 ft high and 1,258 ft long, and was built in 1918. The project’s estimated cost is $48 million. Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust, 1 N. PENNSYLVANIA

The Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (Alcosan) is planning a massive tunnel system under Pittsburgh to curb sewage overflow. The 5.7-mile-long Ohio River Tunnel will begin construction in 2025 and be completed in 2028. The 5.4-mile-long Allegheny River Tunnel is slated to begin construction in late 2028, with construction wrapping up by 2033. The 5.3-mile-long Monongahela River Tunnel is slated for construction from 2029 through 2036. The 18-ft-dia tunnels will be constructed through bedrock about 150 ft deep. The system will have a storage capacity of 160 million gal, and will reduce sewage overflow by 7 billion gal per year. The projects’ estimated cost totals approximately $2 billion. COLORADO

2/23 Boulder County is seeking bidders to construct the Boulder County Jail and Jail Intake Addition. The project entails constructing a two-story, 54,000-sq-ft alternative sentencing facility, a two-story, 30,560-sq-ft expansion to the existing jail, and a 2,150-sq-ft addition to the jail’s mechanical room. ALABAMA

3/2 The University of Alabama is seeking bidders to build its Performing Arts Academic Center on its campus in Tuscaloosa. The multistory, 150,000-sq-ft building will include four large venues: a 450-seat dance theatre, a 350-seat proscenium-style drama theatre, a black box theatre with flexible seating for 175-275 people, and an opera studio theatre along with flexible space for rehearsals, recitals and smaller performances along with courtyard space. The project also includes approximately 51,000 sq ft of interior fit-out of the 2nd and 3rd floors of Bryce Main. It has been designed by TurnerBatson. The project is valued at $110 million.
