Elevated inflation may force some homeowners to put off their travel plans for another summer, but transforming the home into a staycation requires only a few simple renovations and adjustments, according to Housing Design Matters. Entertaining kitchens with oversized pantries or messy kitchens make cooking preparations a breeze and leave ample space for guests.

Outdoor living remodels took off during the COVID pandemic, and indoor/outdoor living areas are still in high demand. Covered or screened porches offer protection from rain or insects while allowing homeowners to lounge on cozy indoor furniture without sacrificing the fresh air or natural views. When it comes to the backyard, lawn space is essential for homeowners with young children, and fire pits are also great additions for those who like to entertain.

If this is another summer of staycation, how does that affect the housing market? Money that would have been spent on travel might be redirected back into home. Some will want to buy new furniture, others may take on a remodeling project, and some will finally make the leap to buy a new home.

What makes a new home Staycation worthy?

  • Entertaining kitchen
  • Great outdoor living spaces
  • Enhanced back yard
