First Steel Erected at New Sacramento Kings Arena

ESC 1The first piece of steel was recently installed at the Entertainment and Sports Center in the heart of downtown Sacramento, California. The ESC will serve as a civic indoor/outdoor space for the region, as well as the new home for the Sacramento Kings.

The first piece of steel was installed at (what will become) the team's new practice facility. The steel was supplied and fabricated by Schuff Steel, with help from subcontractor Pacific Erectors.

Highlights of the project include :

  • ESC 3Each vertical column is approximately 40-feet tall.
  • Approximately 9,000 tons of steel will be used in the overall project; 970 tons on the practice facility.
  • Steel installation at the practice facility will last approximately 4-5 weeks, at which time steel erection of the arena will begin.
  • Steel installation will continue through fall of 2015.

The ESC is scheduled to open fall of 2016, in time for the NBA's 2016-2017 season. AECOM serves as lead architect; ICON Venue Group is the project manager and Turner Construction is lead builder.
