Despite flashy new product releases and ever-changing design trends, these bathroom faves are standing the test of time

The bathroom is a place of privacy, relaxation, and calm, and despite what design pros may suggest for on-trend finishes or amenities, homeowners are refusing to give up some favorite but perhaps outdated features. According to Realtor.com, the bathtub is here to stay even as zero-entry showers become increasingly popular, and functional storage solutions are still favored over magazine-ready open shelving or minimalist storage designs.

The rain-style shower head is a luxury feature for some, but the majority of homeowners still prefer a traditional angled wall shower head without all of the bells and whistles of more recent product releases. 

That low-light statement bathroom fixture with the stained glass seems moody and chic on your Instagram scroll. But it won’t help when you need to see yourself in the mirror. Yup, you need bright lights!

Or better yet, layer your lighting and always use dimmers in the bathroom, advises [Jose] Cardenas.

Not familiar with layers of light in a room? It means installing task lights for small jobs, decorative or accent lighting (like a sconce) to highlight a specific area, and general or ambient lights installed overhead in a bathroom.
