Las Vegas Stadium Schedule Starts Two-Minute Drill for Roadwork

Three Las Vegas freeway projects will kick off earlier than scheduled to support the planned 2020 opening of a new stadium for the Raiders NFL football team. The projects were included in a 2016 report that recommended nearly $900 million of fast-tracked improvements to support the new stadium being built on a 62-acre site across I-15 from McCarran International Airport. First to get underway is the addition of three ramps at the Centennial Bowl interchange, in northwest Las Vegas. The $55.1-million project is set to start this year, three years earlier than originally scheduled, and will be completed in a single phase. The Las Vegas Regional Transportation Commission also approved starting a $32-million project to build direct-access ramps to a new I-15 car-pool lane in 2020, 15 years earlier than planned, and will extend the southbound U.S. 95 ramp in downtown Las Vegas in 2019, a project presently estimated at $16 million.
