Completed in October 2017, the $42.3-million pavilion expands medical services for children.

Before the addition, it would take nearly five minutes to transport a patient from the helicopter pad to a trauma room. Now that travel time is under 90 seconds.

One new feature is an emergency department that is Arizona’s only Level 1 pediatric trauma center. The emergency department also features dedicated triage and trauma suites.

Six exam rooms are dedicated to behavioral health. There are also four isolation suites. A new central laboratory supports all requirements of the hospital’s 391 licensed beds and off-campus care sites. There is also a new hematology and oncology center, hospital administration department and an expanded lower level supporting the hospital’s infrastructure and support services.

Construction team challenges included working on an extremely active site and complementing the existing hospital’s character with a vibrant color scheme and decorative mortar and block.
