Paul Trombino, director of the Iowa Dept. of Transportation for the past five years, has announced that he will leave his post on Nov. 28, 2016. Among Trombino’s accomplishments at the helm of the 2,700-employee transportation agency, he led last year’s successful effort to increase Iowa’s gas tax by 10¢ per gallon, generating an additional $215 million annually for road and bridge projects. He also won praise for working with contractors to expedite restoration of flood-damaged I-680, near Council Bluffs, in 2011, completing what had been estimated as a year’s worth of repairs in just over a month. No successor or interim director has been named.
