Under the scope of OXEA’s 2019 butanol spring turnaround project, contractor Turner Industries saw to more than 700 work packages, including cleaning, inspection, repair and closing of heat exchangers, towers, vessels, tanks and valves.

With more than 150,000 worker hours, Turner had no lost-time incidents or recordables. OXEA and Turner worked together to implement a new safety program specifically for the Bay City site that focused on hazard recognition and employee recognition. Turner employees also worked with OXEA engineers to design a lifting device to lower the 6,000-lb reactor heads for vessel entry, allowing for the safe clearance of personnel while raising and lowering the reactor heads.
