With the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion’s first in-service deadline of November 2021 looming, two monitoring groups testified to state regulators in June that they could not accurately forecast when construction would complete. State monitors and an independent monitor separately testified that the project team’s focus on achieving key milestones is having the effect of pushing other critical construction work off into the future, clouding the project’s end date. Citing the project schedule’s lack of “realistic and achievable unit rates” and “realistic schedule durations,” state monitors Steven Roetger and Bill Jacobs told the Georgia Public Service Commission any estimate would be “simply an educated guess.” Georgia Power estimates the project to be 85% complete.
