KANSAS Price Brothers Co. is planning to build Phase 1 of the Bluhawk Sports Park in Overland Park. The two-story, 256,000-sq-ft building will contain a 4,000-seat civic and community sports center featuring four basketball courts, eight volleyball courts, multiple recreational turf fields and an ice rink. The complex will also include locker rooms, team meeting spaces and a restaurant. It is being designed by HOK Group Inc., and VCC Construction has been selected as the general contractor. KENTUCKY United Parcel Service is planning to construct a hangar at Worldport at Louisville Airport. The 262,000-sq-ft, two-bay maintenance hangar will also contain office space. MASSACHUSETTS Wyman Street Advisors is planning to develop the Jan Karski Way residential building in Boston. The five-story, 442,112-sq-ft building will contain 403 residential units, 16,910 sq ft of retail space, and 275 below-grade parking spaces. It is being designed by ADD Inc. NORTH CAROLINA The North Carolina Dept. of Transportation is planning to carry out Part D of the U.S. Route 74 Shelby Bypass Project. The project entails constructing the section of highway from east of State Route 150 to the existing U.S. 74 west of State Route 2238 (Long Branch Road). Part D is valued at $72.9 million. OREGON Portland Public Schools is planning to modernize Jefferson High School. Phase 1 involves constructing a “swing site” that will accommodate 700 students. Phase 2 involves gutting the oldest section of the building­—erected in 1909—except for the theater, student center, commons, kitchen and main gym. Phase 3 entails demolition of those facilities, while students begin moving into the renovated 1909 wing. During this time, the district will also resurface the athletics fields. The new four-story, 207,000-sq-ft building will have a 1,000-seat theater and four large dance studios. It is being designed by Bora Architects. The project is valued at $320 million. CALIFORNIA The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $10.8-million contract to James Fisher Jr. Excavating for the Phase 2B levee improvement project in Hamilton City. The project entails replacing the existing J levee with a new setback levee, which will reconnect 900 acres of floodplain to the Sacramento River. IOWA The City of Nevada has awarded a $35.8-million contract to Williams Brothers Construction to carry out phase 2 of the wastewater treatment plant improvement project. The project includes construction of a headworks building, three-stage oxidation ditch activated sludge system, secondary treatment building, secondary clarifiers, ultraviolet disinfection building, aerobic digesters and a solids processing building. ARIZONA 6/18 The Arizona Dept. of Transportation is seeking bidders to carry out a bridge replacement project. The project entails work on U.S. Route 191 between mileposts 469.90 and 488.56, within Navajo Nation, approximately 22 miles north of Chinle. The work includes the rehabilitation of bridges over the Chinle Wash and the Agua Sal South Wash, and the replacement of bridges over the Agua Sal North Wash and the Lukachukai Wash.
