After three years of planning, budgeting and preconstruction, along with pandemic-related delays, the Avalanche Locker Room project was finally greenlit in February 2022. But work couldn’t begin until after the Av’s Stanley Cup Championship victory on June 26.

The team was finally able to mobilize and start demolition activities on July 5, but at that point had just 12 weeks to complete the project before the first preseason game on Sept. 25. The schedule was further complicated by the arena hosting a record number of concerts during the offseason due to cancellations and lost revenue during the pandemic.

Scope included the full demolition and interior fit-out of the 15,000-sq-ft locker room at Ball Arena, along with coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, sauna, steam room, sports medicine rooms, hydrotherapy and the visiting NHL locker room.

Agility and buy-in from everyone involved in the project was imperative, while a phased approach helped accommodate ongoing building operations. Work hours also shifted to include more nights and weekends.
