After hitting its lowest point during the COVID-19 crisis, real gross domestic product (GPD) is rebounding, and many U.S. cities are growing and recovering along with it. A recent survey by SmartAsset reveals the up-and-coming regions of a renewed economy as close to half of the nation’s cities are back to full employment.
The Northwest is home to six of the nation’s top ten boomtowns, where increased housing and low unemployment rates are helping local economies recover from the pandemic. Some southern states are also seeing significant growth in their major cities after a year-long fallout.
In this study, SmartAsset uncovered the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. To identify the top boomtowns in America in 2021, we looked at the most recently available data for 500 of the largest cities across the following seven metrics: population change, unemployment rate, change in unemployment rate, GDP growth rate, business growth, housing growth and change in household income.
