North Carolina

Duke Energy is in the predesign phase for a $2.4-billion offshore wind farm 18 miles south of Bald Head Island. Targeting a completion date of July 1, 2032, the facility could support up to 1.6 gigawatts of offshore wind energy on a 54,000-acre lease area, enough to power nearly 375,000 homes. Florida

HOK Group Inc. is the architect for the MIA Vertically Integrated Cargo Community project in Miami, where owners CCR USA and the Miami-Dade County Dept. of Aviation/Facilities Development and owner and builder/developer Airis International Holdings LLC are in the planning schematics phase for the $2-billion project. It is currently pending county board negotiation and approval of a master development agreement with a possible start of construction within the next two years. The project includes one five-story, 1.7-million-sq-ft reinforced concrete building on a 29.4-acre site and the demolition of three existing cargo buildings and relocation of a fuel delivery facility. The first two floors of the building will include robotic technology for cargo handling with smart truck docks and more, while the third and fourth floors will house conventional cargo facilities. The top “community” level will include administrative offices, childcare support, restaurants and retail. Rooftop solar panels will generate as much as 3,600 MWh annually. North Carolina

VinFast US and general contractors Clayco Inc. and Barnhill Contracting Co. have begun work on a $2-billion design-bid-build project aimed at constructing an electric vehicle plant to produce five-passenger midsize SUVs and seven-passenger full-size SUVs. The plant will also manufacture battery packs. WSP USA Inc. is the engineer and Albert Kahn is the architect for eight reinforced concrete buildings that are each one story, for a total 2.85 million sq ft. Georgia

CIM Group is in the predevelopment phase for the $500-million Centennial Yards Platform Redevelopment on Ted Turner Drive in Atlanta. The work will include a new parking garage, freight terminal and bridge project. Construction is possible within five years for the design-bid-build project, which aims to construct a large concrete platform to span freight and transit tracks, new roads, new sidewalks and more. Alabama

Manna Inc. is aiming for a January 2024 start date for a $600-million manufacturing building at Wasden Road and Bill Joseph Parkway off Interstate 65 in Hope Hull. The project is pending approvals, with an estimated operational start date of 2025. The contract method is undetermined. The 1.7-million-sq-ft precast concrete building will house a beverage production and distribution facility on 180 acres at a new industrial park, including a research and development center with bottling line.
