VISION House at Mariposa Meadows, an off-grid, carbon neutral project by Green Builder Media, near Telluride, Colorado offers a forward-thinking solution to housing in an era of extreme climate change. Green Builder’s latest demonstration home is constructed with structural insulated panels (SIPs) for energy efficiency, metal doors for fire-resistance, a combi boiler for improved air quality, and multiple energy- and water-saving appliances, The Washington Post reports.

The project focused not only on energy efficiency and resilience in the built structure, but also on the protection and preservation of the surrounding forest and native wildlife. The home was constructed with a Frank Lloyd Wright philosophy of symbiosis between architecture and its natural environment.

“I don’t think the natural world and the built environment need to be in conflict,” said [Green Builder co-founder and president Ron] Jones, who also serves as general contractor for the VISION House.

Jones said he believes the construction and real estate industry could do a better job of protecting trees, which in turn would protect the habitat for wildlife, when they are constructing houses.
