The next issue of ENR Southwest is the annual presentation of the Specialty Contractor Survey which this year includes nearly 50 firms.

We will also profile the firm that has been selected as the Top Specialty Contractor by the regional editors of Engineering News Record: Sun Valley Masonry, Phoenix, Ariz.

This Arizona-based firm won its first project in 1977. Since that first small project, the firm has moved to such high profile works as Chase Field in downtown Phoenix. Headquarters are in Phoenix with other offices in Tucson and Stillwater, Okla.

Revenues have steadily risen for the firm over the past three years. The firm attributes growth to improving business environment in Phoenix metro, but also expanding beyond just masonry and embracing concrete. The firm performs foundations, slab on grade, structural, cast in place, podium decks, and tilt panel concrete work.

Some recent notable work includes: Inspire on Earll, Scottsdale; Tucson Premium Outlets; and the ASU Sun Devil stadium remodel.

The firm’s 0.60 EMR has improved in recent years, partly due to the formation of safety committees comprised of field personnel and management as well as random job walks.

A full profile of the firm will be included in the Sept. 7 issue, which will also include a plethora of data about the specialty contractor market and results from the Specialty Contractor Survey.
