ENR Midwest has selected Terracon Consultants, Inc. as its Design Firm of the Year for 2024.

Design Firms of the Year are chosen by a vote of the regional ENR editors from across the country based on a carefully selected group of finalists. Factors include regional revenues, new initiatives, current projects, community and industry contributions and other considerations.

Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Olathe, Kan., Terracon is a 100% employee-owned consulting engineering firm specializing in environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services. Terracon currently has more than 6,000 employees in 175 locations, serving all 50 states nationwide.

One of its largest Midwest projects is replacement of the Chester Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. Other Midwest projects include a new $100-million foundry for A.Y. McDonald Manufacturing Co.; a $350-million new facility for the American Royal Complex that includes a learning and engagement center and 100 acres of space for livestock shows and other events in Kansas City, Kan.; and construction of the $732-million Lock and Dam 25 improvement project in Winfield, Mo. In 2023, the company also navigated complex subsurface and geotechnical challenges to help rebuild Chicago's Jane Byrne Interchange.

The Terracon Foundation gives grants and scholarships through its employee matching charitable gift program; more than $3.7 million has been awarded to organizations including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas City, Mo. and Engineers Without Borders.

A profile of Terracon will appear in the May print issue of ENR Midwest, which will also feature our annual ranking of the region's Top Design Firms. Congratulations to this year’s winner!
