“This is an exciting time to be a contractor in Hawaii,” Dillon says. “While we continue to see a steady stream of mixed-use projects, we are now seeing an uptick of public–private partnerships, or P3 projects.”

The P3 projects on the horizon include plans for a new exhibition hall with an 8,600-seat arena, a performing arts center, a 2,500-seat sports pavilion and a 25,000-sq-ft concession space. The project will be located in the heart of Honolulu.

“The plan to redevelop Aloha Stadium into an iconic multi-use stadium will be an economic driver for the state,” Dillon says.

“There continues to be great need for affordable housing in the Aloha State, and the city and county of Honolulu have recognized this need,” Dillon adds.

In May, the mayor signed a bill into law that changes codes for small parcels of land and offers financial incentives to property owners.

“We anticipate seeing an upward trend of much needed affordable housing construction on Oahu,” Dillon says.
