Contractor Clark Construction and designer EHDD celebrated the grand opening in May of Pacific Visions, a 29,000-sq-ft, two-story addition to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif. BuroHappold designed the facade, which has 800 unique, non-reflective glass panels covering 18,000 sq ft. The $53-million structure houses an immersive theater and interactive exhibits such as spatial soundscapes, a touchable coral sculpture wall and glass sculptures inspired by plankton. A 2,600-sq-ft orientation gallery will feature a 18-ft-wide virtual waterfall with interactive elements and a 26-ft-wide, 8-ft-tall LED screen that provides a visual tour of the history of life on Earth.
