ROCKVILLE, MD Ā Ā ā€“ Foulger-Pratt is pleased to announce the promotion of David Uffelman to President of Foulger-Pratt Contracting, replacing John Barron who has moved on to another opportunity. Mr. Uffelman will oversee all aspects of the Rockville, MD-based contracting operation, which specializes in mixed-use, multifamily residential, office, retail, healthcare, and interiors construction.

Mr. Uffelman most recently served as Vice President of Operations for Foulger-Pratt Contracting since joining the company in November 2007. In that role, he was responsible for managing the execution of high-quality construction services and ensuring the delivery of world-class construction services to our clients.

Mr. Uffelman has over 26 years of experience in the construction industry. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation for being a top-notch builder and team-player with superior leadership and mentorship skills, and a strong commitment to training. While working on some of the most challenging projects in the DC area, Mr. Uffelman has gained invaluable experience on projects in the mixed-use, residential, retail, commercial, healthcare, and government markets.Ā  Some recent examples of project in which Mr. Uffelman was involved include the Walmart on Georgia Ave, the Exchange at Wheaton Station, the Citron Apartments in Downtown Silver Spring and several LA Fitness facilities.

Mr. Uffelman received a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from East Carolina University School of Industrial Technology. He has continued his education with training at Dale Carnegie Leadership for Managers, Crestcom International Bullet Proof Management, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Quality Management; as well as industry specific training in the areas of safety, cost and schedule control. He has received a Merit Award for Excellence from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is a Peer Review Committee Member on the GSAā€™s Building Excellence Program.

Contractors expect to spend more time on prefabrication, according to FMI study

Get ready for a surge in prefabrication activity by contractors. FMI, the consulting and investment banking firm, recently polled contractors about how much time they were spending, in craft labor hours, on prefabrication for construction projects. More than 250 contractors participated in the survey, and the average response to that question was 18%. More revealing, however, was the participantsā€™ anticipation that craft hours dedicated to prefab would essentially double, to 34%, within the next five years.

SOM unveils ā€˜branchingā€™ structural design for new Satellite Concourse 1 at Oā€™Hare Airport

The Chicago Department of Aviation has revealed the design for Satellite Concourse 1 at Oā€™Hare International Airport, one of the nationā€™s business airports. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), with Ross Barney Architects, Juan Gabriel Moreno Architects (JGMA), and Arup, the concourse will be the first new building in the Terminal Area Program, the largest concourse area expansion and revitalization in the airportā€™s almost seven-decade history.Ā
