Completion of this design-build project addressed multiple water-related issues for the city while also providing a new recreation and golf amenity for Denver residents and visitors. Crews excavated and graded nearly 400,000 cu yd of dirt for stormwater detention. The project replaced 85-year-old infrastructure and created a prevention system for up to a 100-year flood.

The team also created an 18-hole public golf course, along with a modern clubhouse and maintenance facility. The new golf course will temporarily slow and hold floodwater during major storms, providing additional protection for downstream properties. Storm and groundwater drainage was designed into the water hazards on the course, maintaining a parkland style, and a natural water-treatment channel enhances playability.

The LEED Gold clubhouse has a west-facing back patio that provides expansive views of the mountains and space for both golf and community events. The maintenance facility includes a roof-mounted photovoltaic system and a technology-enabled, reclaimed water-distribution system for golf course irrigation.

To help meet the schedule, the team split the work out into individual design packages for sanitary sewer, excavation and grading, water detention, golf course layout, vertical structures, tree reforestation, landscaping and more, requiring approval of more than 15 stakeholders and third-party quality-assurance reviews while construction progressed.
